Hurunui District Council successfully secured external funding from Department of Internal Affairs (Lotteries) to build and outfit a purpose built event trailer to primarily be used for youth engagement activities.
Why a trailer? Young people in the Hurunui District continue to face many challenges that come with living rurally and currently there are very limited services available to them. Some of the issues they face are social isolation, lack of transport, emotional health, and wellbeing issues (e.g. drug and alcohol pressures), lack of social connectedness with friends and on top of this there is the ongoing impact of multiple droughts that our farming families are battling.
The mobile hub helps to lesson these issues and provides an easy answer to combat the lack of transport.
