Hurunui Youth Council
The Hurunui Youth Council (HYC) (aged 14½ - 24 years) forms each year to provide youth voice to subjects that matter and decisions that affect young people. It is a great way to collaborate with other young people and develop leadership skills and be a part of the wider council decision making.
HYC members meet regularly to discuss issues that affect young people in the Hurunui District, gain valuable skills and learn about local government. The HYC contributes to Hurunui District Council decision-making by providing a youth perspective, and a youth voice on relevant issues. HYC members have the opportunity to work alongside youth from around Waitaha/Canterbury through the network of youth councils that include Waimakariri, Selwyn, Christchurch, Kāikoura, ECAN and have further leadership development opportunities and nationally. This can be for shared training, submissions on local and central discussions and exciting social events
There are bimonthly formal meetings in the Hurunui District Council Chambers in Amberley, with informal meetings, workshops and social events in between.
