Committee Announces Security Cameras

Amuri Community Committee are excited to announce security cameras are being installed in Culverden, Rotherham, Waiau and Mt Lyford. They would like to issue a thank you to all those ensuring they will run efficiently.

The new security cameras have been paid for by local amenity rates for each area. The internet needed to run the cameras is being provided free-of-charge and the community committee extends their sincere thanks to Amuri.net for this generous sponsorship.

Graeme Phillips, Chairperson of the Amuri Area Committee, explained that both Amuri.net and the local police helped make the cameras a reality.

“The committee is extremely grateful to Chris Roberts from Amuri.net for providing internet at no cost to the communities” he said. “We believe the camera installations will take the safety of our townships to the next level; will be of huge assistance to police for solving crimes and provide assurance to our residents”

Damian Schuurman, Constable with Culverden Police, was the main driver of this proposal and he met with the communities of Culverden, Rotherham, Waiau and Mt Lyford, who were very supportive. Schuurman said he worked with a security consultant who had 45 years of law enforcement experience, one Ken Eccles, and that Eccles was vital in getting the project off the ground.

“As the Culverden Police, I’m excited to see the positive impact these systems will have on not only Amuri but the greater Hurunui district” Schuurman said.

“Having 24 hour coverage allows for police to target the crimes happening in their communities, as well as adding a prevention element. With Amuri Nets’ excellent speeds, extensive coverage and generosity to help out these communities, we can umbrella the Hurunui District as a whole, giving us greater overall coverage, and allowing Police to address crime in the communities we live in. We have already made good use of these cameras, assisting in a theft in the early hours of Saturday morning.”
