Write on Hurunui
The opportunity for local communities to receive a financial boost to provide creative opportunities for our district is here again.
Hurunui District Council’s (HDC) Creative Communities Scheme Fund (CCS) is opening on 2nd August 2021, and HDC is eager to hear from our local creatives.
‘Write on School for Young Writers’ is one of last year’s recipients of the CCS, applied for by Director Heather McQuillan.
A not-for-profit organisation based in Christchurch; it offers mentorship to young writers.
This initiative was granted $2,595 to carry out writing workshops in schools throughout the Hurunui district.
“We really wanted to bring this Programme out to children in rural areas who don’t have access to our workshops in the city. We are thrilled to have received the funding to make this possible and bring the benefits of this to Hurunui,” said Heather.
In the next school term, tutors will be visiting Hurunui College, Greta Valley School and Amuri Area School to work with the district’s passionate young writers.
“The schools are all really excited about it, and so are we... We love doing workshops in our rural communities and seeing the great work that students produce.”
