Speed Limit Reduction
The speed limit on Rotherham Road South and George Street, from Flintoft Mouse Point Road to Rotherham Township, has been temporarily reduced further to 50 km/h.
Due to damage to the road surface over a 1.5 km section, the road's top layer has worn away, causing bitumen to surface. This makes the road very slippery, even when dry, and particularly dangerous when it's wet or icy. The slick surface can also create a glare problem during winter due to the low angle of the sun.
After evaluating the road, it's clear that extensive repairs are needed, and these can only be done in the warmer months of summer 2024/25. As a precaution, the speed limit has been lowered from 70 km/h to 50 km/h to keep drivers safe during the colder months until these repairs can be made.
Please remember, while it might be tempting to drive faster on this familiar stretch of road, the reduced speed limit is for the safety of everyone. The difference in travel time over this short section at the lower speed is only about 30 seconds. We ask for your patience and to adhere to the speed limits.
