- Review of Easter Sunday Shop Trading Policy - Consultation on the Council’s draft Easter Sunday Shop Trading Policy closed at 5pm on Monday 3 March 2025. The Council proposal is to retain the existing Easter Sunday Shop Trading Policy that retailers may open if they wish. Council will deliberate on the submissions and the Council Officer’s recommendations on the submissions, and make a decision on whether to retain the existing policy, make amendments to the policy, or repeal the policy at the next Council meeting on 25 March 2025. We received 16 submissions on the draft policy, with 14 supporting Council’s proposal to retain the existing policy unchanged, while two submissions sought that Easter Sunday not be a trading day and the policy be repealed.

The Local Government Commission has completed its determination of the representation arrangements for Hurunui District Council, to apply for the election to be held on 11 October 2025.
