Key timing for our foodbanks
With COVID-19 lockdown in full swing, the chillers funded by Food Secure North Canterbury (FSNC) could not have arrived at a better time for our District’s foodbanks.
Earlier this year, FSNC allocated $500 quarterly to North Canterbury Foodbanks along with new chillers for food storage, which have recently been delivered some of our District’s foodbanks.
Volunteer Aveai Taulamana from Living Waters Foodbank in Waikari is thrilled to have the extra space, and even more thrilled with the timing.
“We received the gift of the chiller just in time for lockdown, it has been a saving grace as we are able to store more of the rescued food and produce less waste.”
The team at Living Waters Foodbank are aware of the communities increased need in these uncertain times and have been working hard to supply food to those who are reaching out.
“It has been very busy this time around, we have lots of food coming and going every day.”
Aveai is grateful for the collaborative effort to provide the District's foodbanks with the resources they need to support our communities.
“We would like to thank Hurunui District Council and FSNC on behalf of Living Waters Foodbank, and the families that we help. Working together makes times like these a little less stressful.”
