A positive outcome for the Rotherham community
Rotherham residents are keen to get their “little town” on the map as they dive in to their third community development project.
The Rotherham Village Green project is underway, this being the last of three community-led projects within the ‘Positively Rotherham’ vision following the Rotherham Pool and the Rotherham Track.
‘Positively Rotherham’ is a vision created by the community, based on community connection and growth. This concept was facilitated by Hurunui District Council’s Community Partnerships Team, who’s members have continued to support the ongoing projects.
The Village Green project is led by the Rotherham Citizens Committee, and Chair Hayley Clark said it has been a topic of discussion for more than ten years, and she is thrilled to see it finally making tracks.
“We are all very excited. It has been a long time coming and we have so many great ideas."
New toilets have recently been installed on the Village Green, funded in equal halves by both Council and the Tourism Infrastructure Fund. The Committee plans to discuss landscaping and fencing options in the coming months.
Clark is grateful to soon have another great asset for the Rotherham Community.
“It is about creating a welcoming space to host small events where everyone from kids to our elderly can enjoy themselves.”
The refurbishment of the Rotherham Pool and the Rotherham Track created a similar feeling within the community.
Chair of the Pool Committee Libby Ryan said the Pool is a happy and social place for “little old Rotherham."
“People want to be there, whether it is elderly with their grandkids or people who are passing through.”
Clark said that the track has been a great recreational activity for the community, providing stunning views of the town.
With two projects crossed off their wishlist and another in the process, the Rotherham Community look forward to seeing what’s next.
“We are here, and we love our little place. We can’t wait to make it even better,” said Clark.
