A call for celebration
The success of Hurunui’s youngsters involved in the Mayor’s Taskforce for Jobs (MTFJ) Programme calls for celebration.
Last week, past and present MTFJ members came together to celebrate another year of work placements.
MTFJ is a government-funded programme connecting local businesses with those displaced by COVID-19, creating sustainable opportunities for both parties.
Throughout the evening, a number of youth spoke about their gratitude for the Programme, current MTFJ youth Lenix Trembath describing her experience as life changing.
“My self-esteem and confidence skyrocketed, that’s what kept me going when the work got tough… My future looks so much brighter than it did a year ago.”
Certificates of achievement were awarded by Mayor Marie Black, and she spoke about the collaboration between the Ministry of Social Development (MSD), Mayor’s Taskforce for Jobs and Hurunui District Council.
“Through these partnerships we have managed to place almost 100 youth in sustainable work over the past two years. I am extremely grateful for our partners, businesses and staff who have invested their time into our young people.”
MSD Account Manager Jamie Kissock and Rangiora MSD colleagues attended the celebration, along with MTFJ Programme Coordinator Emma Anderson, Chair of MTFJ and Mayor of Otorohanga District Council Max Baxter, North Canterbury businesses, parents, and Council staff.
Business Partnerships Advisor Chris King and MTFJ Programme Coordinator Jo Carter said that they feel privileged to have witnessed such positive changes in the youth.
“Being on this journey with our youth has been very fulfilling, we are extremely proud of them and wish them the best for their futures,” said Chris.
