Current transfer station works
Having experienced their busiest year to date, our Waste Team is taking advantage of the quieter winter months to complete some key projects for 2022.
Aligned with the Council’s Long Term Plan, the rear of the Hanmer Springs Transfer Station has been excavated and a new concrete pad is being poured for green waste storage. The concrete pad will provide a level area for people to unload and manoeuvre their vehicles and trailers.
Two new hook bins are on site at Amberley Transfer Station. These are open top bins with roll over covers that cart green waste and glass. The roll over covers allow staff to maximise the load and carry it safely between outlying transfer stations and the Amberley site.
Excavation works for a new glass recycling area are underway at the Amberley Transfer Station. This project is funded by Council’s reimbursement from the Landfill Levy, which must be spent on projects that further increase diversion of waste from landfill.
A concrete pad will be poured for the glass bin to sit on with a retaining wall acting as a safety barrier. The glass bin will be adjacent to lanes one and two, allowing all recycling to be dropped off in one area. The relocation of the bin will double the size of the green waste pad, increasing storage capabilities.
These projects are expected to be completed in time for the warmer, busier months.
