Energy around battery recycling
There is plenty of energy around battery recycling in Hurunui. The total weight of household battery recycling from July 1 2022 to mid December was 370kg. The total weight from July 2021 to the end of June 2022 was 450kg, meaning on average there is an upward monthly trend of household batteries being recycled.
Earlier this year, members of Hawarden Menzshed built and installed household battery recycling bins at the Amberley, Culverden, Hanmer Springs and Waiau transfer stations. Batteries can also be dropped off at the Amberley, Amuri, Cheviot and Hanmer Springs service centres.
In 2023 there are plans to build indoor three indoor household battery recycling facilities for the Hawarden, Cheviot and Amuri service centres. These will be paid for by levy funding.
