History restored at Wandle Bridge reserve area.
The historical Wandle Bridge picnic area near Waiau has received a makeover.
The popular rest spot received extensive damage during the 2016 earthquake, which partly resulted in the original history board being destroyed.
Thanks to some great community effort and help from Topp Contractors, local Hurunui District Councilor Ross Barnes and local Historian Sue Harris, the site is once again an inviting place of rest with a picnic table, history board and smoothed out surface area.
The original history board told the tale of the Inland Road from when it began. The new history board retains that information but has also been updated by Sue, who has made 19 story boards in the Waiau Township area which all feature snippets of history and information, mainly gathered from the museum on the Waiau Village Green.
