‘The coolest little wine festival’ returns
Mayor Marie Black is looking forward to doing a bit of winemaking of her own at a much loved wine and food festival in Waipara next month…..
The North Canterbury Wine & Food Festival is back and serving up the best the region has to offer after a two-year hiatus due to covid.
The Glenmark Domain will play host on 5 March to North Canterbury’s wineries, eateries and artisan food producers all putting on an impressive spread of local fare.
The festival under the oaks has been popular with food and wine lovers since it began in 2018, well known as one of the best events of the Canterbury summer line-up.
Hurunui Mayor Marie Black is celebrating with a fancy footwork demonstration of the age-old tradition of grape stomping.
"The festival is a foodies paradise and a brilliant showcase of the talented makers and producers in our region. We love to welcome guests from near and far to join us for a day of sipping, feasting and lounging.
"I'm certainly no winemaker but I'm looking forward to jumping in feet first and having fun stomping on some locally grown grapes," says Marie.
More than 60 stallholders will be exhibiting at this year's festival boasting the finest chefs, bakers, makers and food trucks in Canterbury.
Event Director Jon Holmes says guests can expect a culinary line-up with plenty of surprises.
"We've got everything from fine dining to comfort eats, fresh kaimoana to good old fashioned Kiwi barbecue as well as an extensive wine list from the region's award-winning wineries.”
The live music line-up features local musicians Mahalia Simpson, Sam Heselwood, Emily Alice and Jed Parsons. For those wanting to talk shop, head to the Talk Tent to meet the local producers, hear their stories and taste their creations.
An event for the entire family, under 18’s can enter for free. The littlest festival goers can enjoy a petting zoo, pony rides and face painting allowing fun for all ages from toddlers to teens.
