Bright team work to retain heritage
There is some extra charm lighting up Cedar Place, thanks to smart work by one Amberley resident and a member of Amberley MenzShed.
At the end of 2022, Richard Forbes contacted Hurunui District Council with concerns about the broken heritage streetlight fitting on his street.
His own request to take the fitting and repair it himself was given the nod.
Mr Forbes worked closely with the street light maintenance contractor PJL about what was required for instalment and safety checks.
Kait Murray, Road Assets and Planning, said Mr Forbes sourced all the parts necessary to renew the worn/broken parts, and arranged for Amberley MenzShed member Richard Barwell to carry out the refurbishment work.
“Even after we outlined the tests it would have to undergo to be installed, Mr Forbes was still pretty keen,” said Murray.
With the refurbishment project now complete, the refurbished light was taken back to PJL for testing and reinstalling.
Murray said it was a great result, and getting a match for those old lights will soon be impossible.
