Turning back the clock for Waikari School’s next chapter
There was a little bit of turning back the clock for Mayor Marie Black on Monday, as she welcomed Waikari School’s new Principal Phoebe Todd.
Mayor Black’s and her husband Dave Black’s four children attended the school, representing the fourth generation of Blacks to grace the school gates on Princes St.
“Our four children had a great learning experience within these school grounds, they all speak fondly of their teachers and the opportunity they had in these classrooms.”
One of the best memories Mayor Black has of the Waikari School days was everyone rolling up their sleeves and working as a team.
“In my opinion, this is one of the many strengths of this school, where your children really see you caring for them as you work to provide a rich and inspiring learning environment.”
Of the 14 years that the Blacks’ children attended the School, Mayor Black was a Board of Trustee Chairperson for eight of those.
Mayor Black wished the new Principal of Waikari School all the best for her new venture as she settles in, making the move from Methven in Mid Canterbury, and expressed support for Phoebe bringing her own leadership style and values to the new role.
“Phoebe, please know that there are many support people you can call on if the need arises; your fellow principals, the range of support services and of course your community.”
