Make a splash at the Hurunui Manu Champs this summer
The Hurunui Manu Champs are making a splash at the MainPower Amberley Pool this summer.
Hurunui Council’s Customer Services Manager Naomi Woodham said “sound and splash” will determine which manu pops win at the competition, which takes place on Saturday 27 January 2024 at 10am at the MainPower Amberley Pool.
Not only will there be plenty of prizes on offer, the winners of the Hurunui Manu Champs will get free entry to the Z Manu World Championships Ōtautahi Christchurch heat at Jellie Park in February 2024.
Competition is expected to be fierce, said Woodham, and centre stage will be the pool’s manu (bombing) platform, which was built and donated by Hurunui Engineering for the opening of the refurbished pool in 2022.
“Once you’re registered for the Hurunui competition, you can practice your pops during open sessions at the pool and there will also be some special free ‘poppers only’ practice sessions on Mondays and Thursdays from 5.30pm – 7.00pm and also on Saturday mornings from 10am – 11am,” Woodham said.
“We’re excited to be partnering with Compass FM, which will be broadcasting live from the pool on the day of the competition, and we are very grateful to Amberley Tool Shed for their sponsorship.”
To enter the Hurunui Manu Champs, please register at www.hurunui.govt.nz/hurunuimanuchamps. There are three age group categories: 10-12 years, 13-17 years and 18 years and over.
