For the second time within 12 months the “50’s up Brass Band” has delighted music lovers of the Hurunui. A relaxed outdoor concert, held in the RhodoDirect gardens in Waiau, entertained many this week.
On Wednesday the 13th, school children, retirees, young couples, mothers and babies, and everyone in-between pulled out their picnic gear and relaxed in the shade to soak up the atmosphere and music in Waiau.
The 30 piece brass band seemed to strike all the right notes for the community, with there being no shortage of positive feedback. The band said they enjoy venturing into Waiau and bringing with them music that is not often heard around these parts.
Marina Shearer, Owner/Operator at the RhodoDirect gardens, said this event was another incredible council initiative that was bringing joy to the community.
“Everyone left with a smile on their face and a spring in their step. It was a pleasure to be a part of this excellent collaborative event” she said.
Rebuild Officer from the council, Chris King said that it has been great to see so many positive initiatives happening in Waiau, a town forging on with its recovery from the earthquake.
“Brass on the grass was well received. The venue was amazing and the enjoyment on the faces of everyone there was just great to see” he said. “Waiau residents are very resilient and good humoured, but an earthquake’s an earthquake. It’s good to see opportunities for everyone to get dressed up and just have a really good time.”
