Hurunui will have a new mayor from October
Hurunui will have a new mayor from October, with Mayor Winton Dalley confirming this week that he will not be seeking re-election this year.
Mayor Dalley has been the mayor of the Hurunui District Council since 2010. Prior to this, he was the ward councillor for the Hurunui Ward from 2004 (which became the Amuri-Hurunui Ward in 2007) including holding the position of chair of the Works and Services Committee 2007 to 2010. His involvement with local government in the district started many years prior as a foundation member of the Hurunui Ward Committee (post the 1989 local government amalgamations), which he also chaired for a good many years.
The council is incredibly grateful to Mayor Dalley for the significant work he has done throughout the district during the past three decades and wishes him and wife Jean, all the very best for their future.
Nominations for local body candidates open on July 19 this year and close on August 16 at 12 noon.
Voting documents will be mailed out between 20-25 September. Votes must be returned to council by 12 noon on October 12.
