Inquiry into EQC – Hurunui Public Forums
The Public Inquiry into the Earthquake Commission is hosting two public forums in our district this month.
We, the Hurunui District Council and residents of the Hurunui, have been identified as having an interest in the work of the Public Inquiry into the Earthquake Commission and invited to participate in the process. At the public forums, participants can share their experiences of the earthquakes and the earthquake commission.

The Public Inquiry into the Earthquake Commission operates independently of government. It will be about experiences right across New Zealand, with a particular focus on Canterbury earthquakes.
Dame Silvia Cartwright is acting as Inquiry Chair and intends to report the inquiry’s findings to the Governor-General and the Government by the end of 2019.
“I appreciate talking about difficult past experiences won’t be easy for many people... But I would encourage anyone to make the effort, not just for themselves, but to pay it forward to future generations who will need the insurance cover when natural disasters occur” she said.
