Funding Approved! - Boyle River & Lottery Bush
We are pleased to announce that the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) has approved funding to assist with projects in the Boyle River and Lottery Bush areas!
This funding came from MBIE’s Tourism Infrastructure Fund and is intended to create a better visitor experience, enhanced access and improved safety in these two locations.
The specifics of the approved funding and projects are set out in the table below:
Project Description | Funding Approved (GST excl.) |
---|---|
Boyle River – Widening and Sealing Work on
Magdalen Valley Road
To improve access to the Boyle River Outdoor Education Centre and the Department of Conservation site – positively affecting visitor experience and road safety. | $33,000 |
Lottery Bush - New Carpark and Improved Access For the development of a car parking area and associated access way - there is currently no safe formed parking area. The local community, Department of Conservation and Hurunui District Council are working together to create a great Lottery Bush experiences. | $20,400 |
The Hurunui district is large, the seventh largest district in New Zealand, and yet its population is relatively small. With over 1600 kilometres of road and an equally significant pipe network, the costs of roading and infrastructure can fall heavily on a comparatively small population base. With visitor numbers continuing to rise, this funding fits perfectly with the Hurunui District Council’s goal that tourism continue to benefit, rather than burden, the ratepayer.
Chief Executive, Hamish Dobbie, has reiterated the council’s thanks and said “tourism is a very important economic driver for this district. Being able to access stunning remote locations is all part of the appeal. This Tourism Infrastructure Funding from MBIE really assists our communities, because it helps deliver visitors to these locations, while also lessening the financial burden of this on our small population base”.
