A Word from the Mayor
As February typically brings with it our seasonal dry spell I ask that you all take extra precaution in regard to fire safety, we are witnessing first-hand the impact this is currently having in Australia, therefore we all must be vigilant and keep risk to a minimum.
Water reliability is critical at present, community information can be found on the HDC website, with regular updates to keep you informed in regard to possible restrictions that may apply to your water source.
How disheartening to hear that our precious pounamu had been ripped from its plinth within the grounds of the Hanmer Springs Pool and Spa – and then the delight that within a short time frame a report to state that the Pounamu had been retrieved. I am grateful for the excellent work from our Police, but I am also thankful that over the past few years our local Lions groups have partnered with Police to install CCTV cameras. This collaboration has certainly proved a worthy asset in keeping our community safe.
Council are hosting a range of summer pool parties with the dates advertised on the facebook page, they are a wonderful way to engage with your local council as representatives from the Community team will be present. Hurunui Tourism or Eventful Hurunui websites are a great way to keep abreast of the activities on offer, Pegasus Bay vineyard run, Amberley Markham street summer festival, Hurunui Race and Gala day to name a few as well as the weekly Amberley Farmers Market with exceptional local produce on offer.
This last week has seen the end of an era - Trish and Tim Coleman have been absolute ambassadors for hospitality and retail business within our community, both making a significant contribution over many years. I salute you both and thank you for your commitment to making our district a great place to live, work and play.
