A successful solution
A Hurunui agricultural labour business is showing locals in the district the joys of the great outdoors.
Hurunui Labour Solutions has teamed up with the Mayors’ Taskforce for Jobs (MTFJ) and lined up locals with work in North Canterbury Vineyards.
MTFJ is a Government funded programme connecting local businesses with those displaced by COVID-19, creating sustainable opportunities for both parties.
Toby Holdstock and Ross McLintock are Hurunui Labour Solutions most recent placements, and both are rapt to have some consistency in their day to day lives.
“I had been out of work for nearly a year. MTFJ put me back out there and helped me to get my physical health back in check. It’s great having weekly pays and being off the benefit again,” said Toby.
“I’m learning new skills and I have more motivation. I’m feeling a lot more positive… It’s great having regular work and regular pay,” said Ross.
Operator of Hurunui Labour Solutions Brent Knight is happy to be providing beneficial work experience to those eager to gain new skills.
“The programme gives keen people new experiences and the chance to try things that they may not have done before.”
Toby and Ross are grateful to have a foot in the door, both feeling positive for their future in the workforce.
“It has been an awesome experience and it feels good to have a purpose,” said Ross.
