Community urged to plan for January disruptions on Douglas Road
Amberley residents are being urged to plan ahead of disruptions to traffic flow on Douglas Road from Monday 13 January 2025 to Friday 31 January 2025.
A new watermain is being installed on the rail crossing. Hurunui District Council’s Operations Manager - Roading Charlie Hutt said this will mean delays to traffic flows with some periodic full road closures. “If a full closure happens, a detour will be established, which will add considerable time and distance to some journeys.
“In order to meet KiwiRail requirements for this work to proceed, there will be changes to the usual flow of traffic.”
The work has been timed to take advantage of the school holidays.
Work hours will be between 7am and 5pm weekdays. The road will re-open overnight and on weekends – however, the road layout may be altered during this time.
“The onsite crew will do their best to keep any delays as short as possible, however, longer delays may be unavoidable. Due to the location of this work the available detours are considerable as traffic is directed around the site via the closest sealed roads,” Hutt said.
Emergency vehicles will be accommodated as required.
“Please follow onsite signage, reduce your speed, and keep an eye on Councils’ interactive roading map for real-time updates on the Hurunui District Council website.”
