Fancy being crowned King or Queen of the Pool this summer? February 1, 2025 is the inaugural Royale Super Splash family fun day at the MainPower Amberley Pool which will also include the popular Hurunui Manu Champs.
MainPower Amberley Pool supervisor Anne Frankland said adults and children aged eight years and older can participate in one or all of the fun events planned, including noodle horse racing, human fishing, walk on water and water taxi. Winners with the most points across the events will be awarded the titles of King and Queen of the Pool.
“The pool welcomes potential entrants to have a go practising for the events during any of its open sessions. If you aren’t sure what is involved in the events, just ask one of the friendly lifeguards for some pointers.”
The Super Splash events will take place alongside the 2025 Hurunui Manu Champs at the MainPower Amberley Pool on Saturday, 1 February 2025 from 10am to 12pm.
“The 2024 Hurunui Manu Champs were very popular and many in the community asked us to expand the event to open it up to include other options,” Frankland said.
Once again, division winners from the Hurunui Manu Champs will get free entry to the Z World Manu World Championships Ōtautahi Christchurch heat at Jellie Park on February 8, 2025.
This season manu competition entrants can benefit from specialised training with coaching being provided from last year’s winner, Frankland said.
“MainPower Amberley Pool offers free manu practice and coaching time. Last year’s manu champion William Smallwood, who is now a lifeguard at the pool, will be providing training ahead of the Hurunui champs.”
This free training will take place every Monday throughout January starting on the 6th, from 5:00pm – 5:45pm.
A new freestyle division has been added to the manu champs. “These will be for bomb styles other than the tradition manu “V” style and, just like for the manu division, we will be looking for the biggest splash.”
