Council adopts Reserves Management Plan 2025
The Reserves Management Plan 2025 has been adopted by Hurunui District Council at its first meeting of the year on 28 January 2025.
A total of 186 submissions were received on the draft Reserves Management Plan last year, with 18 submitters speaking to their submission.
In response to submissions, some changes were made to the draft plan and it was brought back to Council for adoption.
Council’s Chief Strategy and Community officer Judith Batchelor said councils are required under section 41 of the Reserves Management Act 1977 to review their reserve management plans to ensure they remain relevant to changing use.
“We are grateful to the many submitters who took the time to give us their views on the draft plan, helping to shape how our reserves in the Hurunui are managed, with consideration to their current use and future development potential,” Batchelor said.
Mayor Marie Black is a proud advocate of the district’s reserves.
“Our district is incredibly proud to be home to a diverse range of reserves that form a green link from our stunning coastline to our snowcapped mountains. These cherished spaces are more than just beautiful landscapes — they are a testament to our district’s rich history and deep connection to the land. Each reserve tells a unique story of our past while providing a place for our community to connect, explore and thrive.
“We take immense pride in preserving and celebrating our reserves, ensuring they continue to inspire and enrich the lives of future generations," Mayor Black said.
