Council accepts councillor’s intended resignation as ‘huge loss’
Hurunui District Council has accepted the intended resignation of South Ward councillor Garry Jackson as “a huge loss” to the Council table.
Cr Jackson tabled his intention to resign at last week’s Council meeting, citing his disagreement with the dimensions of the cricket ground at the Amberley Village Green. Cr Jackson’s resignation will be effective from 15 April 2025.
Mayor Marie Black thanked Cr Jackson for his service to Hurunui residents in his various roles and said it was with great sadness that his resignation was accepted. Mayor Black acknowledged the value Cr Jackson has brought to the council table and the integrity he has continued to demonstrate during his tenure.
Cr Jackson was elected as South Ward councillor in 2022, has been a member of the Audit and Risk Committee, a member of the Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools and Spa Management Committee, and Chair of the Hurunui Road Safety Committee.
“Council has benefited by your input over the past two-and-a half years and the value you have added has been immense. Your input at these meetings and your oversight to the rest of council will be an immense loss,” Mayor Black said.
“While we will certainly miss your presence around the table, we know that your influence will be felt for years to come. Thank you for everything — you leave with our utmost appreciation and best wishes for what comes next.”
Cr Jackson served as mayor of Hurunui from 2004 to 2010.
