For those facing barriers to getting their licence. The Community Driver Mentor Programme (CDMP) matches up learner drivers with full licensed volunteer mentors to coach and learn safe driving practices and skills to pass the restricted driving test.
The aim of the programme is to take some of the pressures of getting a learner on the road such as:
- Not having a suitable vehicle to practice in
- Not having a suitable friend or family member to supervise practice
- Financial strain of insurance/petrol/professional lessons
- Creating a routine and repeated learning environment in time poor families
Eligibility Criteria:
- Require a minimum of 4 months on learners licence.
- Must be available to commit to practice by participating in 1-2 driving sessions per week, with a mentor coach.
- Can access assistance or pay for restricted licence test ($134.70)
- Has barriers restricting them from obtaining their licence without programme assistance.
What is provided?
- A minimum of 3 professional instructor lessons.
- You will be paired with a trained mentor.
- The use of the programme automatic cars.
- Support from the Programme Coordinator.
- Weekly lesson with your mentor.
- Support in booking and getting to the driving test.
