Thanks to those who attended the session on 13 May 2023. At this meeting we talked through the primary issues facing Gore Bay including:
- Coastal erosion risk to private property and access roads
- The erosion of land at the Buxton/Jed river mouth area
- Nuisance flooding
We then talked through several options to address those issues. One of the main areas of focus for those in the meeting was the movement of the Buxton/Jed River mouths.
Based on the community feedback we’ll continue to investigate options to address movement of the Buxton Creek/Jed river mouth. In addition to this Laura Somerville from the University of Canterbury is undertaking a research project to investigate the physical processes which influence the Buxton/Jed estuary area.
We’ve also commissioned a slope stability assessment for the slope behind the settlement so we can understand the risk of slope failure and what the consequence of this may be.
We’ll provide a further update once this work is complete.
