LED street lighting

We are converting all street lights across the district townships to energy-efficient LED lighting.

The upgrade programme focuses on lights that have come to the end of their life cycle and were due to be replaced.

Why we're changing to LED lighting

The lights that have previously been used to light our streets were inefficient compared to the modern LED lighting now being installed.
When all street lights have been upgraded to LED the Council will make significant savings in running costs.
The completed upgrade will achieve reduced carbon emissions.
The neutral white light gives increased colour rendering providing greater clarity for a safer transport environment.
LEDs provide a very directional source of light reducing wasted light spilling into adjacent properties and into the night sky.
A greater lifespan of the lights reduces maintenance costs and reduces disposal waste, positively impacting on the environment. Disposed LED lights also contain no hazardous elements to manage, unlike the lights they are replacing.

The street light in my street is not going. How do I get it fixed?

It does help if we have good details to pass on to our contractor. So, a description of the location of the street light such as a street address the light is closest to is good. It also helps us to have the details of the problem too e.g. not going, flickering, flashing etc.

Using the mobile Snap, Send, Solve app is also a good option, as GPS Coordinates of where the picture was taken are 'tagged' to the picture (if enabled) and this helps us too.

The lighting in our street is very dull. How do we get it improved?

The street light outside my house shines into the bedroom at night. It is very annoying. Is there anything you can do to prevent this?

It may be possible to modify the light fitting to reduce the amount of light 'spill' onto private property.
